Cassopolis, Mich. The old hotel stood at the northwest corner of Broadway and State Street, at the heart of the village.

It was the Union Hotel, where the lodge of 1846 held its grand ball. In 1852 the Masons held their first meeting under the same roof, and on the 1860 wall map of the county the engraver cut one word on its block: HOTEL.

Then, in 1867, the building was hauled across the village and turned into a mill, and a new hotel rose on its ground.

Where did the old hotel end up, and is any of it still standing? That is Case 2 on the board. The first sources are the county histories of 1882 and 1906, free to read online.
